MUSKEGON, MI – The Miss Michigan Scholarship Program kicked off its first night of competition Thursday with three contestants walking away with preliminary awards. The 20 women in pursuit of the Miss Michigan crown showed off their intelligence, talent, beauty and fitness during the preliminary part of the competition Thursday, June 13, at the historic Frauenthal Theater in downtown Muskegon. RELATED: Guide to Miss Michigan 2024, featuring the 20 candidates The competition will wrap up on Saturday, June 15 when Miss Michigan 2023 Maya Schuhknecht crowns her successor.

The Miss Michigan teen competition will take place Friday, June 14. The preliminary night of the three-day competition featured on-stage questions, a lively health and fitness portion, an energetic talent portion and a colorful showing of evening gowns. These were the three preliminary award winners in the first night of competition: Miss Michigan 2008 Ashlee Baracy-Kunkel once again served as the mistress of ceremonies, welcoming the audience before kicking off the competition.



In the preliminary round, points are awarded with 30% for the private interview with the judges, 20% for talent, 20% for health and fitness, 20% for evening gown and 10% for the on-stage question. The night began with an opening performance by the 20 contestants, who wore matching black, sparkling knee-length dresses, their local title sashes and bright smiles. Each contestant then answered an on-stage question from the panel of judge.
