The two sisters’ passion for Nordic homeware has taken them from their childhood home in Eglinton, Co Derry. They both attended Loreto College in Coleraine, before going on to higher education in England. Catherine studied performing arts in Liverpool, while Patricia studied French and drama in London.

After university, both sisters separately decided against a career in the arts, and went into jobs in business. The idea of running their own business was always in the back of their minds, as their father owned a company. “My dad is a builder,” Catherine says, “and like anyone who grows up in a family business, you’ll always get working in the summers or whenever there’s an extra hand needed.



“I had worked on and off doing admin bits with him in his office. I feel like that put me in really good stead. “My dad was very keen on a lot of really interesting design pieces growing up, so that was obviously planting a wee seed, without us kind of realising.

” Catherine worked in project management before living abroad and travelling in Australia. She returned to Northern Ireland and did a master’s in business at Jordanstown, graduating in 2010. She moved into a job working in communications for Titanic Belfast.

Her sister Patricia had come back to NI some years before Catherine, and both sisters found themselves considering their futures at the same time. Catherine says: “2011 was just a funny time: kind of starting to come out of recession but not really. We we.
