Bird-watching columns help appreciate wildlife I always enjoy Jack Gedney’s bird-watching columns in the IJ Lifestyle section on Mondays. I appreciate that he focuses on local birds. I go on walks nearly every day and I love listening to hawks, song sparrows, woodpeckers and many more birds who entertain me with a beautiful concert.
I also watch many birds feeding (and fighting) on the feeders in my yard. Considering that we have such beautiful landscapes and a wealth of wild animals and birds here in Marin, we should all keep our eyes and ears open and enjoy. — Ute Brandon, San Rafael Fairfax proclamation for peace deserves support I am writing in response to IJ political columnist Dick Spotswood’s column published June 12 with the headline “Fairfax peace resolution merely caused town division.
” Far from causing division, I think the Fairfax Town Council’s peace resolution about the conflict in the Middle East has shown how Fairfax residents can exhibit empathy and humanity to our fellow humans rather than supporting ongoing war. I am concerned that some people in our society who support the ongoing destruction in Gaza following the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists do not want local councils bringing attention to the unnecessary deaths of so many innocent Palestinians by the Israel Defense Forces.
I worry that some even want to silence the voices for peace. While our tax dollars are being used to help fund these attacks on Gaza that lead to so much hor.
