SHIRLEY — Joy Marzolf has loved animals from the time she was a child growing up in New England and she would always take advantage of any outdoor time to explore nature. Now, she still loves to explore, but also to share her knowledge about wildlife, wildlife photography – and nature in general. Join Marzolf, of The Joys of Nature, as she presents her program “Beautiful Butterflies” at 4:30 p.

m. Wednesday, June 26, at Hazen Memorial Library, 3 Keady Way. What makes a good butterfly habitat? How do you attract more of these beautiful insects? “From the large Eastern tiger swallowtail and colorful monarch to the tiny spring azure, there is a huge range of size, color and patterns in New England butterfly species,” Marzolf said.

“However, we have some big challenges to butterflies, but luckily there are things we can do to change those challenges – habitat loss and overuse of chemicals.” Marzolf says that helping butterflies also helps us as native plants are beautiful, use much less water than lawns, and means less to mow, saving lots of money. “In addition, most of the chemicals people use to kill animals and plants around their yards are not good for humans, especially children, either,” she added.

Find out more about our local butterflies and what brings them to our neighborhoods. “Save money, water, butterflies and ourselves at the same time by making your yard butterfly and family friendly without chemicals,” Marzolf said. For more information on.
