Main Street Vermilion and the Vermilion History Museum have teamed up to create a new floating exhibit showcasing life in Vermilion in the summer. Located in the Main Street Vermilion office, 685 Main St., the display case features items from Vermilion’s past that best reflect what was happening in town and on Lake Erie for the season.
Items currently in the display case, courtesy of the Vermilion History Museum, were selected by the Main Street Vermilion Historic Preservation Committee to best showcase nautical history, products of Vermilion and items from clubs and organizations most active in the summer. In the display are multiple photographs depicting the Vermilion River and boats, a milk bottle from Maurer-Wikel Inc., a dairy originally located on State Street, a pamphlet from the Vermilion Garden Club, a 1959-1960 Business and Professional Women of Vermilion year book and a Baker Compass Co.
marine compass. “Since we have this beautiful facility that we use as a welcome center to Vermilion, we thought it would be a perfect marriage to bring some of their exhibits here,” said Kate Repola, Main Street Vermilion executive director. “Especially with the organizations, a lot of those organizations are active in the summer and we thought it would be really neat to highlight three organizations that are women-based.
” Though historic preservation remain a part of the Main Street mission year-round, Repola said this year, it will focus on the committee and brainstorm .
