While many new airports have acres of room, abundant light, and every modern convenience, they usually lack the style of bygone aerodrome terminals. Without harking back to the a cavernous glassed-in box can't lay a glove on a beautiful structure like the historic terminal at California's Long Beach Airport. (LGB) turned 100 last year, but the celebrations will fire up again on July 27 when the renovated terminal has its Grand Reopening.
The day includes a public open house of the Streamline Moderne-style building from 10:00 to 15:00, where guests will enjoy history tours, music, children's activities, giveaways and light refreshments. Visitors on the day will be among the first to see the historic terminal's return to its former glory after more than a year of extensive renovations. The airport offers three hours of free parking in Parking Structure B to encourage more visitors to see the transformation.
