Attempts to alleviate parking woes at a popular Eryri beauty spot have backfired and caused more chaos, according to local critics. Y Glyn, or "the lagoons" near Llyn Padarn in Llanberis, underwent major resurfacing work to create 114 parking spaces and an "Arosfan" campervan facility - but locals say it has instead morphed into a mass campsite. The move by Cyngor Gwynedd Council was aimed at bringing order to the overwhelmed site, but the parking ticket machines have not been functioning and the height barriers are only occasionally in use.

Two weeks ago this led to 95 campervans staying overnight, alongside dozens of tents - despite them being banned. As the Bank Holiday weekend looms, residents are preparing themselves for more disorder at this leisure site. Environmental concerns include increased levels of littering and the prospect of finding more human defecation, presenting a grim task for volunteer litter pickers.
