It's been nearly a month since 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer Jay Slater disappeared after a night out in Tenerife. After leaving the Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas, he travelled over 30km north to a secluded Airbnb named Casa Abuela Tina in the early hours of June 17. He was invited to stay at the property by two men, one of whom was convicted drug dealer Ayub Qassim, 31.
Qassim claims he allowed Jay to stay after 'his friends had all left him'. However, that same morning, Jay departed the property on foot, heading further north into the Rural Parc de Teno, which is his last known location. Emergency services spent nearly two weeks in the area where Jay's phone last pinged before police ended the official search on June 30.
The Guardia Civil stated this week that they are keeping an open mind and several lines of inquiry are still ongoing.
