Slam poets Sammi Walker and Andrew Early joined us this morning to talk upcoming Salt City Slam events. If you’ve never seen Slam Poetry performed live, it’s a must. You’ll be stunned and moved by the performing poets.
Salt City Slam is a monthly poetry competition that happens the last Monday of every month at The Beehive , they feature performers, a five person open mic, and a competition with a cash prize. This is one of the longest running poetry events, and they are adding events monthly. May’s featured poet is Rudy Fransico , one of the most well known names in poetry who has shared stages with prominent artists such as Gladys Knight, and Jordain Sparks.
He is also an individual world poetry slam champion, a national poetry slam champion and has appeared on NBC’s the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon, and “The Bachelorette. A name this big does not come to Utah often! AAMP Utah is the nonprofit that we work through, it is run by Andrew Early. AAMP was created to make spaces for unconventional arts, such as slam.
