Pupil Leah Harrison's life was claimed in freak Carlton Bank mudslide tragedy. The Year 6 pupil from Mount Pleasant Primary School, in Darlington, was reportedly on a school trip to the North Yorkshire beauty spot when the freak incident took place around 1.15pm on Wednesday.
It sparked a massive emergency services response with multiple 999 units in attendance at the beauty spot on the Cleveland Hills. No other injuries were reported. Cleveland Mountain Rescue Teams, police and ambulance crews all attended.

The full details are still emerging but this was clearly a heart-breaking tragedy. She was much-loved, as I say, and thoughts and prayers are with Leah's family, her friends, and the school staff. We are all in a state of shock as you can imagine, and we'd just ask please that the privacy of her family and the school community is respected whilst we try to come to terms with what's happened.
