Thank you to Peter Frantz for his informative editorial regarding excessive traffic speeds on North Nevada Avenue through the Old North End neighborhood. We should support any solution to increase safety on a stretch of road that is 15 times more deadly than average. As a resident traveling daily from downtown to north of Fillmore, I have seen the successful speed reduction on Cascade Avenue that was achieved by reducing traffic lanes.

I was concerned, as were many, with the impacts in travel time when that change was implemented. After a couple of years, I have observed no increase in typical drive time but near elimination of cars and motorcycles traveling at excessive speeds. North Nevada is a gauntlet for both vehicle and pedestrian crossings due to excessive speed, and enforcement has not worked.

The Colorado Springs Transportation Manager Kathleen Krager supported narrowing Cascade Ave. to one lane in each direction, citing data on traffic flows and the hoped-for quieting effect on Cascade Ave. Ms.

Krager made public appearances promoting a narrower Cascade Ave. Regardless of any quieting on Cascade Avenue, the narrowing of Cascade definitely corresponded to increased noise an.
