Beneath the Edwards Access Road, where it passes over the Eagle River, there are walking/bike trails on both sides of the river. The one on the south side is the most frequently used. Also on both sides, there are large murals, painted about five years ago.
My wife and I walk along this trail about once a week and it’s always been a pleasure to see the cheery murals. About two to three weeks ago the mural on the south side was defaced with a lot of mindless graffiti. This doesn’t rise to the level of a violent crime, but it does damage the idea that we can have beautiful outdoor art that is valued by the people who live here.
Senseless vandalism, whose only objective is to wreck something for the sake of wrecking, has no place anywhere. But here, in this wonderful place, there is even less point to it. Perhaps a public-spirited person will step forward and contact the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office with information regarding the perpetrator(s).
If this is allowed to continue, our valley is going to lose an important part of its charm. Also, it would be nice if the entity that funded the murals in the first place could see it as worthwhile to repair the damage. I’ll be happy to contribute toward this.
Will Darken Edwards.
