So the Dillon Town Council is at it again just like an unbridled kid in a candy store! For one, the council is considering a massive proposal from Jake Porritt to transform Dillon into something unrecognizable. Maybe Dillon should be renamed Porrittsville. Sound familiar? Second, the council hired an architect to develop restaurant plans on the lake below the playground.
Here are concerns that should supersede “excitement” or having a “little fun.” 1. Where will patrons park especially on concert days? Where will restaurant staff park? How will handicap parking be handled? Congestion will increase where children play and bikers/walkers continually cross the street.
2. According to Google research, trucks pick up restaurant trash about three times a week. Food delivery is two to three times a week.
A huge disruption to the playground and to families, walkers, bikers on the path. 3. Kids will be playing on the playground smelling food and trash odors.
Odors will waft into the Lake Cliffe Condo/marina area. 4. For many Lake Cliffe owners, it will ruin the view and affect condo values.
Residents will look out at the restaurant roof containing vents and exhaust fans that will emit oil, grease, animal fat. Even with a grease filtration system odors and roof stains will exist (Google research). The serene, beautiful shoreline will be disrupted.
5. Several million dollars to build? How long will it take to recoup that from lease income and sales taxes? 6. Taxpayers do not pay.
