Cheered on by a crowd lining the street, the Kutztown Area High School Class of 2024 paraded down Main Street on their way to commencement on Thursday, May 30. The 106 graduates walked across the school football field to receive their diplomas. “Education is a K through 12 learning experience in Kutztown.
Each one of your teachers played a key part in your development,” principal Barry Flicker told the graduates sitting in front of a crowd of friends, family, administration and faculty. More than 50 faculty members, past and present, from the high school, middle school and elementary schools joined in the celebration. “As you entered the stadium, you were flanked by an honor guard composed of your teachers,” Flicker said.
“This was their last chance to send you on your way and show their genuine affection.” Class President Colin Hamm delivered the welcome address, offering thanks and a few lessons. “I learned about overcoming adversity, the importance of leadership and the ability to encourage growth of the people around them to achieve them, but I’ve also learned these past four years is just the importance of being.
Whether it’s on the sports field or in the office, teamwork is essential,” Hamm said. Offering advice, he said: “Do not take any opportunity for granted and make sure to leave room for life and work. Always be present in the moment and just live life to the fullest.
” Hamm said this may be the end of the chapter but is the prelude to many .
