The Kimberley Community Choir held its summer concert “Songs from the Journey” in two performances over the weekend at Centre 64. “I'm so proud of the singers,” said conductor Marta Zeegers, who this year celebrates 20 years with the choir. She described the music program for these concerts as “full-meal”, with some songs acting as an appetizer, others as entrees and some as desserts.

She said “Songs from the Journey” was meant to highlight how people can be simultaneously very similar and very different. “Each singer — and audience member — had their favourites, but the program came together really well,” she added. “One audience member said, ‘This is the most spirited and emotionally complex concert I've ever been to!’ “Our job of storytelling was accomplished as both tears and laughter were observed in the audience.

” The choir was accompanied by the virtuosic Tim Plait on the grand piano, which Zeegers said is always great to get out for an outing as it doesn’t get enough airtime. “I am beyond blessed and honoured to have Tim Plait as a colleague,” Zeegers said. “He is so intuitive to the needs of any performer he collaborates with.

“We were ever so lucky to have Erryn T join us with her flute in Stan Rogers' ‘Field Behind the Plow’. Her contribution added so much to that loving piece of prairie narration.” Zeegers added that despite its rather boxy nature, Studio 64 provided a “warm performing environment,” and said it.
