Police have arrested a North Staffordshire trucker after a crash which left a motorist trapped and a road shut for hours. Emergency services were called out to Shrewbridge Road, in Nantwich , to reports of a smash involving a lorry and a car. The collision left the driver of the Nissan Note, a 35-year-old woman, trapped.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Winsford and Crewe with the 'major rescue unit' sent to the smash. As reported by StokeonTrentLive at the time , the stretch of the A530 in Baddington had to be shut off - and remained closed until the afternoon. Today Cheshire Police have confirmed the Nissan driver was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The alarm had been raised at around 7.45am yesterday (June 18).

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and found that there had been a collision between a lorry and a Nissan Note. The driver of the Nissan was trapped in their vehicle. She was released by firefighters and taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
