As forecasters predict that the UK could face its ‘wettest summer’ in 100 years, with 50 days of rain warned, new research has found the best beach for avoiding the showers. As current weather maps and charts predict prolonged downpours and even freezing temperatures across the nation this summer, a study from found that is among the UK’s ‘driest holiday destinations’. Having reviewed historical Met Office data from 130 of our most popular staycation spots, Margate was found to be among the top five that see the least rain.

Placing fifth overall, the coastal town recorded an average of 110 rainy days per year. It sees an average of 62mm of rain during the summer months of July and August. Taking the number one spot on the ranking is Skegness in Lincolnshire which recorded an average 102 days of rain per year.



Southend-on-Sea in Essex landed second place with 108 rainy days, while Aldeburgh in Suffolk and Frinton-on-Sea in Essex followed closely behind, having both recorded an average of 109 rainy days. Dubbed “one of the UK’s first and most well-known seaside resorts”, Ripe noted the historic Dreamland amusement park as well as the impressive Turner Contemporary Gallery among Margate's best features. Of course if there is one other attribute that seaside town is known for, it's the stunning golden beach that attracts thousands upon thousands of visitors every year.
