Library Terrace Assisted Living resident and Vietnam War veteran Dennis Wolf, 79, took his Honor Flight to Washington D.C. earlier this month, seeing the Vietnam War memorial in person for the first time.
Wolf was a Corporal in the marines from 1966-1970, serving in Vietnam for 14 months from 1966-1967. Wolf, who regularly goes to the Heroes Café at Festival, said other veterans had gone and would talk about the experience. He decided to apply, and flew to the nation’s capital on June 15 with his grandniece.

Wolf, 79, took his Honor Flight earlier this month. “It was a great honor, we had such beautiful weather,” Wolf said. Seeing the many memorials was a moving experience, Wolf said, especially the Vietnam War Memorial.
While he had seen the Traveling Memorial Wall some years ago, “it was a lot different from the moving wall,” Wolf said. “It was hard to reminisce about the Vietnam days. It kind of makes you tear up.
” The reception he received returning from his Honor Flight was heartwarming, Wolf said, with seemingly thousands there to greet him and other veterans with signs and cheering. “I’ve never had something like that coming back,” Wolf said. Subscribe to our Daily Headlines newsletter.
