Actor Noor Malabika Das, 37, was found dead in her apartment at Lokhandwala on Friday in a suspected suicide, the Mumbai police said. She was a co-star of Kajol in the 2023 legal drama The Trial , streaming on Disney+Hotstar. Das’s body was recovered in a decomposed state after her neighbours noticed a foul smell and informed the Oshiwara police.

The police broke open the door and took the body to Siddharth Hospital. They recovered some pills and her phones from the flat but said no death note was found. The police, who registered an accidental death report, said they sent her two phones to a forensic lab to get them unlocked.

In a preliminary probe, the police did not find any foul play and were awaiting a final report from doctors regarding the cause of her death. Advertisement “We contacted Das’s aged parents in Assam, they told us they won’t be able to come to Mumbai to claim the body. Based on their statement given to the local police station in which they complained of no foul play, we cremated the body on Sunday,” said senior inspector Mohan Patil of the Oshiwara police station.

A few days before Das’s death, her parents, who had been staying with her, had returned to their native place in Assam, the police said. “We suspect she might have been in depression and was taking pills for the same. The reason behind the depression could be not getting work,” Patil said.

Before becoming an actor, Das worked as an air hostess with Qatar Airways. Some of the not.
