Ireland rugby legend Johnny Sexton joined tens of thousands of Taylor Swift fans on Friday night as the American singer-songwriter took to the Aviva for the first night of her highly anticipated Irish leg of her Eras Tour. Taking to Instagram to share a snap alongside his young daughter, the 38-year-old wrote ‘retirement’ as the pair strolled towards the Aviva Stadium for the gig. Johnny Sexton and his wife Laura share three young children, Luca, Sophie and Amy.

He officially called time on his rugby career back in October in the aftermath of Ireland’s exit from the World Cup, with 115 international caps earned and a plethora of silverware won along the way, including two Six Nations Grand Slams. The Irish rugby legend is not the only Irish celebrity who wanted a taste of the Swift mania. With tickets like gold dust, the Taoiseach has revealed that he hasn’t secured passes for any of the three nights.

Despite not having tickets himself, the new Fine Gael leader told media he was ‘really conscious that it’s a moment of great excitement for many, many, many people across the country. ‘I actually think this is going to be a great weekend for our capital city,’ he said, ‘Between our GAA matches; between Longitude in Marlay Park, Shania Twain out in Malahide, obviously Taylor Swift, Pride tomorrow — there’s a lot of really exciting events happening and I’m hoping that it’s going to be a really good weekend that people can enjoy and celebrate and stay safe.
