Joan Helen Baden, age 97, peacefully passed away Monday, June 10, 2024 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. Joan was born December 31st, 1926, in Kingston, New York. Joan met her husband, Harry of 52 years while they were attending the Albany State Teachers College in New York.

She earned her master’s in teaching and taught English at the high school and college level. Together they built a home, where they resided for over 60 years in Webster, New York. This home was well known in the community for Joan’s beautiful rose gardens.



Joan was a Master Gardener and Director with the Webster Garden Club. She was instrumental in founding and supporting The Webster Arboretum. Joan was the President for one year in the Greater Rochester Rose Society after years of teaching, judging and showing roses.

Another passion was art and art history especially as a docent at the Memorial Art Gallery of Rochester, New York. She loved the Webster Theatre Guild where she directed, acted and sang for many years. Joan was an active member of the Webster Presbyterian Church, also serving as a trustee, deacon and choir member.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, 1 infant sister, and her loving husband Harry. Joan is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fagan (David) of Altoona, PA; son, Bruce Baden (Mary) of Deerwood; Grandchildren, Christian, Sarah Bechdel and Lois Fagan, Nathaniel and Zachary (Sheila) Bollum, Laura (Alex) Naujokas, Jamie (Jake) Miles; Great Grandchildren, Evan, Lila.
