This offseason, Aaron Rodgers was faced with a significant choice. The four-time NFL MVP could have chosen to embark on a political career as the vice president alongside independent Robert Kennedy Jr. or return to the football field for a 20th season.

Yet, despite the allure of a new path in politics, Rodgers’ unwavering passion for the game ultimately won out. “I love Bobby, and we had a few nice conversations,” Rodgers said on Tuesday. “But there were really two options: it was retire and be his VP or keep playing, and I want to keep playing.



” Kennedy is running as a third-party independent candidate in November’s presidential election. In March, The New York Times reported that Rodgers was among Kennedy’s top running mates. But at the owner’s meetings in Orlando, the Jets said they didn’t expect Rodgers to explore that option and to continue playing in 2024.

Kennedy eventually chose Bay Area attorney Nicole Shanahan as his running mate. This fall, Kennedy hopes to upset current President Joe Biden and former President Donald J. Trump.
