The mother of 19 year old Jay Slater has shared the family's distress over the loss of "our beautiful boy" after his mysterious disappearance in Tenerife. Jay was last heard from on June 17, when he messaged his friend Lucy Law to say he planned to trek back to the south of the island from Masca, where he had been staying at an Airbnb. His phone battery died shortly thereafter.

Despite a large-scale search by Spanish authorities, efforts were halted last Sunday with Jay still missing. Debbie Duncan, Jay's mother, has now broken her silence following the end of the search. On the 17th of June after not returning to his apartment he was reported as a missing person. Jay is a normal guy who is in his 3rd year of an apprenticeship, and he is a very popular young man with a large circle of friends," Debbie conveyed through LBT Global, a charity aiding the families of missing persons abroad. "We are a very close family and are absolutely devastated about his disappearance.
