A Tenerife local has revealed why he believes missing teen Jay Slater has not been found in the mountains. The apprentice bricklayer, 19, seemingly vanished on June 17 in the remote Rural de Teno area of Tenerife while on holiday for a three-day music festival with friends. Jay left his pals to travel to a quiet Airbnb with two other British partygoers in the early morning and later attempted to walk 11 hours on foot to his accommodation.
His phone last pinged somewhere in the treacherous terrain near the village of Masca, where Spanish police focused their active search before officially calling it off on June 30. Jay's close family and friends have stayed on the island to continue looking for him, but four weeks after his disappearance, he has still not been found. Neighbours of Casa Abuela Tina, the Airbnb that Jay went back to before he went missing, shared their theory about the teen's disappearance - and why it's unlikely he died while walking in the mountains.
A woman named Irene, who lives with her partner Manolo, told Manchester Evening News : "[Manolo] thinks that Jay isn't here." He explained: "Because many people have looked for him - loads of police units. If he was here, the crows would have spotted him.
Because as soon as they spot a dead animal like a goat or something, the crows are on top of it. If by the second or third day, if he was - supposedly, God willing not - dead, the crows would have found him straight away. But we haven't seen them around here.
