Renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar recently commended composer AR Rahman for his collaborative nature, describing the Oscar-winning musician as a ‘very easy person’ to work with. The lyricist shared an anecdote from the time they worked on the 1997 film ‘Minsara Kanava’. He opened up about the incident where AR Rahman adjusted the tune to accommodate his lyrical.

In the Hindi version of ‘Minsara Kanavu’, Javed Akhtar penned the lyrics. He recalled writing the lyrics for ‘Chanda Re’. In an interview with O2India, Javed Akhtar shared that AR Rahman is ‘very adjusting’ when it comes to collaborating with his singers and lyricists, despite being one of the most successful music directors.



He also stated that other musicians are ‘very particular’ about certain things. “They bring a lot of ifs and buts and interfere when the singer is singing,” he said. The ace lyricist stated that AR Rahman gives his singers a lot of freedom.

Rahman tells the singers that he has given the tune, now the singers have to tell him how they want to sing. Reminiscing about the time when AR Rahman adjusted the tune to accommodate the lyrics, he revealed, “The line ‘Baithenge baatein karenge’ was not on the exact note. So, I told him, ‘Can you please make a minor adjustment in your tune because I write note to note? But, if I will do that here, the line will be wasted.
