Hayne was released from Mary Wade Correctional Centre at Lidcombe in Sydney ’s west shortly before 5pm, having been granted bail after his rape convictions were overturned . A source familiar with the minimum-security facility, which was previously a women’s prison and before that a juvenile detention centre, said Hayne had a reputation as an arrogant inmate.

'He's just constantly rude to staff and just a bit of a nightmare to deal with,' the source said. 'I think staff will be cheering today.' Hayne's rape conviction was overturned in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal on Wednesday morning and he was granted bail early in the afternoon.
