Like a lot of make-up wearers, I'm fussy about my mascara. I want it all – length, lift, volume, definition with no clumping or smudging throughout the day – and I find that very few live up to the task. One of my all-time favourites – and one that I rebuy over and over again – is Gucci's Mascara L'Obscur .

With a barrel-shaped silicone brush and (in my opinion) the perfect formula, it just makes my lashes look amazing, and seems to even get better the longer it's been open. At £31 though, it's one of the pricier mascaras on the market – but I think I've found a great alternative for a fraction of the price. Fine, yes, but nothing that would make me swap from my current favourite. However, I took it away on a few short trips to save me from taking my expensive mascara, and I quickly grew to love it. With a multi-size silicone brush that reaches every lash and a flexible formula to really stretch them up and out, this mascara makes the eyes look 1.

4 times bigger (according to L'Oréal), while staying smudge-proof all day. I found that is ticked all the boxes: it gives great volume and length and coats every millimetre of every lash, and keeps the hairs lifted and locked in place all day long without flaking or smudging. L'Oréal Pari.
