Getting opinions on your child's name before they're born is always risky. Naming a baby is no easy task, and it's normal to want a second opinion before you accidentally land your child with a weird name that people can't pronounce and that you don't even like a few months down the line. However, asking for opinions on potential monikers is a risk, as everyone has different tastes and you might end up hearing some comments that upset you.
One mum-to-be has said she's learned this the hard way after she told her family what she and her husband plan to call their daughter, who is due in a few months. The new parents have chosen to name their daughter Margot, and despite it being a "traditional" name of French origin, the couple's family, who are all from the US, think it's "weird" and may end up being "mispronounced often". In a post on Reddit , the mum-to-be shared some of the reactions she's had from her family members, including her grandma who stated: "Well, it's going to be misspelt and mispronounced often," and her aunt, who asked her how she and her husband "came up with" the name.
She also revealed that when telling her husband's side of the family, his grandma told his mum: "They picked some weird name that starts with an M." The woman ended her post by admitting she now regrets telling her family what she plans on calling her daughter, and has learnt from her mistakes for the "next time around". She wrote: "If it were Margaux, sure, I could understand.
But Margot?! T.
