Popular among Italian travelers are European countries, the Americas, Asia, and exotic islands, driven by a quest for unique cultural experiences, culinary adventures, and scenic landscapes.
Italy’s strong economy, coupled with high disposable incomes, fuels this robust outbound tourism. Moreover, advancements in travel technology and increasing flight connectivity further boost Italy’s prominence as a significant source market in the international tourism industry. Summer 2023: A Season of Resurgence The summer of 2023 saw a notable rise in travel expenditure and visitor numbers.
More than 34 million Italians took holidays during the summer months, a 10% increase compared to 2022. The average stay lasted eight days. Seaside destinations remained the top choice for Italians, with 63% opting for beach holidays and 60% favoring outdoor vacations.
Cultural holidays attracted 19% of respondents, while 17% chose mountain getaways. Apulia emerged as the most popular region, chosen by 13% of holidaymakers, followed by Sicily (11%), and Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna (10% each). Tuscany (17%), Sicily (16%), and Apulia (13%) were the top picks for outdoor enthusiasts.
