This beach, already known for its picturesque location and romantic surroundings, gained fame as the filming site for Netflix’s hit teen TV show Free Rein , a coming-of-age drama about an American teenager spending her summer in the British countryside. The Emmy-winning series developed a significant cult following over its three seasons. Llanddwyn beach is renowned not only for its scenic beauty but also for its wildlife.
The beach is famous for its wild ponies, specifically the small Carneddau ponies, which wander past sunbathers and contribute to preserving local habitats by grazing on the grasses. The beach’s allure extends beyond its three-mile sandy stretch, as it is backed by the impressive Newborough Warren National Nature Reserve, which features Corsican pine trees and an expansive dune system. Visitors are often captivated by the tidal island of Llanddwyn, connected to the mainland except during the highest tides.
