The Irish-language film Kneecap has scooped three top awards at the Galway Film Fleadh . The movie, which tells the story of the band - Kneecap - and their efforts to break into the music industry, was named the winner of the Best Irish Film and Best Irish Language Film categories, and it also received the coveted Audience Award. Speaking about the impressive wins, writer and director Rich Peppiatt said the outpouring of support shown to the movie, which opens in Irish cinemas on August 8, "is something we'll never forget".

"To be honoured in the way we have at this beautiful festival is something we'll never forget. Go raibh míle maith agat the Fleadh.



" Producer Trevor Birney said it's "been an amazing week in Galway" and admits he can't wait for people to "finally see this special film", which is set for release next month. "This is a huge endorsement, not only of Rich and Kneecap but also of our cast and crew as well as the financiers who supported us all the way," he said. "It's been an amazing week in Galway, and we thank Miriam and the team for backing the film.
