WINGING our way to Eagle Brae was like entering a fantasy land - one you’d imagine Bilbo Baggins and his Hobbity pals hanging out in. The cluster of luxury log cabins - opened by husband and wife team Mike and Pawana - is set in 8,000 acres of gorgeous glens and rolling hills in Struy, in Inverness-shire. 8 The cabins are anything but bog-standard 8 Deer come visit the lodges 8 Lynn stayed in the Loxia cabin And as soon as you drive into the estate, it feels like you’ve been thrust into another world, one J R R Tolkien could easily have written about.

The accommodation is far from bog-standard - each property is built from giant red cedar logs shipped over from British Columbia, in Canada , and is topped with grass roofs, so they almost look like they're growing out of the landscape. And inside there’s nods to the Himalayas, with intricate wood carvings decorating the lodges, where Pawana was brought up. There are 10 cabins to choose from and we were staying in Loxia, which sleeps up to six people and overlooks a private pond, where we spent time wild-life spotting and practising our stone skimming.
