When it comes to the nuptials of two chefs, it’s fair to expect a gastronomic extravaganza. That was certainly the case for Ravneet Gill and Mattie Taiano, whose wedding day celebrations were rightly focused on the food offering. After all, their passion for food is how they met in the first place, when they worked together at a restaurant called Llewelyn’s in London’s Herne Hill.

“Mattie was the sous chef and I was the pastry chef,” Ravneet remembers. “The kitchen was tiny so we were literally knocking into each other and getting on each other’s nerves every day.” It was far from love at first sight, however.



“We both weren’t fans of each other when we first met, Matt actually unfollowed me on Instagram after he met me!” she laughs. “Our first date wasn’t really an official date, but he took me out for steak at Relais de Entrecôte in Soho after a shift and I was in my gym clothes. The two women next to us said we made a great couple.

” The proposal, when it came, also involved food. Mattie got down on one knee at the Frieze Art Fair in 2022, after a meal at one of their favourites, Jikoni. The evening wasn’t without a hitch though, as the couple also received a parking ticket.

“I’ve still got the ticket,” she laughs. Ravneet always knew she wanted a big party that would focus on the food and dancing, so she set about planning everything herself. “I’m very chilled,” she says.
