A COUPLE in their early 20s has revealed how they built their own home from scratch and how much it cost. The woman revealed she was 22 and her partner was 25, and managed to build most of the house for just £300k thanks to getting the land for free. In the clip posted to social media, she said the couple got the land to build their property on for free as they inherited it.
"If it wasn't for this - we would have struggled to build," she added. One of the first big purchases the couple had to make was of course, the architecture plans and designs for the property, which cost them £10,000. They then went on to start building the groundwork and foundations of the home which set them back £12,000.
The building of the house cost them a massive £100,000, but this including the house, roof and garage. The couple managed to save thousands installing the electricity into the house thanks to the fact her partner is an electrician and could do it himself, but they did spend £10,000 on materials. Once the structure of the house was complete, they went on to plaster and sort out the interiors costing £8,000 for the walls, £20,000 for windows and £15,000 for solar panels.
The couple spent £15,000 on underfloor heating and £8,000 on tiles, which they got at a discount as their brother-in-law is a tiler. To complete the kitchen, they went for a modern and clean white and black theme which they got form Wren for £12,000. The bathroom, complete with a stand alone bath and chic blac.
