COLIN PRATER is swapping the class room for the US Open tee box this weekend. The high school biology teacher is set to appear at the third major of the year at Pinehurst in North Carolina. Prater overcame over 9,000 other competitors to qualify for the tournament across two stages.
His place in the 156-player field was finally confirmed on June 3 following an event in Oregon. Ahead of Thursday's opening round, he even completed a practice round with world number one Scottie Scheffler on Wednesday. Scheffler won his second Masters green jacket in April and enjoyed more success last weekend.
He picked up his 11th PGA Tour win at the Memorial Tournament to conclude his preparations for the US Open . Prater had also played with defending champion Wyndham Clark earlier in the week. He and Clark were previously paired together at an amateur event in 2016.
