You’d be forgiven for thinking that a hair dryer is pretty much the same no matter which one you use. But with so many out there to choose from with each boasting different functions and settings and plenty even using smart technology now, the game has well and truly changed when it comes to blow drying your locks. As someone with bleached hair that has a tendency to frizz in heat and a particularly dry scalp, I often avoid using heat on my hair whenever possible, which means I usually save blow drying for special occasions .

However, when Dyson launched its brand new Supersonic Nural hair dryer, £399.99 here , last month, which promises to protect your scalp whilst also maximising shine and limiting heat damage, I had to give it a try. The new Dyson not only has adjustable temperature and airflow settings that allow you to alter how much heat and power is used on your hair, but it also has intelligent LED lights that can automatically detect when the device is held close to your scalp.



As soon as it clocks that you’re busy drying your roots or smoothing your hair from the top, the LED lights switch from yellow to red and it immediately adjusts the temperature settings to avoid burning your scalp. This helps with moisture retention as well as making it generally more pleasant to use, especially for someone like me who has a sensitive scalp to begin with (thanks bleach!).
