There are many things that should put a big beaming smile on your face. A chilled pint of beer in the sun, a puppy, a cuddle with a loved one, seeing your kids happy, or your favourite meal in your favourite place. I am one of those strange people who smile at good technology - and I was certainly grinning from ear to ear when I road-tested the incredible Lofree Edge keyboard.
Should a keyboard bring you joy? Probably not, but this is one of the sleekest, unassumingly brilliant bits of kit I’ve had the pleasure of working with. The first thing you notice about this keyboard is how slim it is, 5.4mm thin if you want to be precise, yet the build of the keyboard is surprisingly robust, and weighs 485 grams.
. The second thing you notice is the design and just how posh it is - it looks like the kind of keyboard you’d expect someone with more money than they know what to do with to be using in a posh Manhattan office block. It’s made of carbon fiber and magnesium alloy and it has a very luxurious and opulent look to it, the keyboard is framed by a stylish, subtle pattern.
All well and good, I once had a nice Alfa Romeo that looked great, sadly the engine was a disappointment to anyone and it didn’t do the job it was meant to. The Lofree Edge has no such mechanical issues, the low-profile keys look fantastic, and genuinely, typing has never been so satisfying. This keyboard has reinvented the way I work, the speed at which I type and it has stopped me bashing the chunky keys.
