Effy Murphy achieved this remarkable weight loss following gastric sleeve surgery three years ago. Her transformation took her from being denied a visa to New Zealand due to her weight, to finishing as the runner-up in a prestigious Las Vegas beauty pageant. The 37-year-old spoke candidly about her past struggles with food addiction, admitting that her eating habits were once "ridiculous", consisting of high-fat meals and sugar-laden drinks.
"I could sit down and have two takeouts each day, with a bunch of garbage in between, and maybe four litres of soda per day," she confessed. "I had severe obesity." The government rejected her visa application, citing her weight as a "health risk". Given just three months to reapply, Effy adopted the "Shake diet" and managed to lose three stone, enabling her to enter the country. However, things didn't go as planned, and following the end of her marriage, Effy fell into depression and regained the weight she'd lost, prompting her to consider a more drastic solution.
