Well, that feature isn’t new, because Huawei’s been doing that since last fall with the launch of its PaperMatte edition tablets.

The Chinese tech giant launched last month an update, the very clumsily named Huawei MatePad 11.5-inch S PaperMatte Edition, and it does something very rarely seen in tech: it’s noticeably better than the predecessor in all the crucial areas—but it’s cheaper. Huawei MatePad 11.

5-inch S PaperMatte This new MatePad offers an 11.5-inch 2.8K resolution LCD panel with 144Hz refresh rate, upgraded form the 2K 120Hz LCD panel from just last fall.

The battery capacity is bigger, up from 7,700mAh last year to 8,800mAh this year; and somehow this new tablet is selling in Europe for £349/€399 (that’s roughly $440) compared to last model’s official retail price of £399/€499. In Asia, this tablet will be even cheaper by at least 10-15%. To be honest, I am really not sure what Huawei’s business or marketing strategy is with this tablet.

The last generation tablet is barely six months old, and Huawei releases this new one that’s clearly better at a lower price. Wouldn’t this alienate or annoy customers who had purchased the previous mode.
