A 12-year-old boy has tragically died in hospital after suffering a medical emergency at a water park. Emergency services rushed to Wild Rivers Waterpark in Irvine, California just after 11am on Saturday to respond to reports of a "medical aid". Irvine Police officers and firefighters from Orange County Fire Authority helped treat the boy at the scene before he was taken to hospital .

The youngster, who experienced the "medical related incident" outside one of the park's swimming pools, was pronounced dead at the hospital on Saturday evening. Irvine Police Department said in a statement: "Earlier today, we responded with the Orange County Fire Authority to a medical aid at Wild Rivers Waterpark. A juvenile was transported to the hospital and sadly passed away.



It does not appear the incident is water-related." It was later confirmed that the boy was 12 years old. The nature of the medical emergency has not yet been disclosed.

Sgt. Karie Davies, an Irvine Police Department spokeswoman, told The Orange County Register that the coroner’s office will rule on the cause of death. Police have ruled out any crime, Davies added.
