Seth Brooks loves to tell people to take a hike. “That’s how I sign people’s books – go take a hike,” he told The Nonpareil. Honey Creek author Seth Brooks, who has written books on hiking trails in Nebraska and Kansas, has now written a book on the best hiking trails in Iowa.

It is set for release on July 2, 2024. Brooks, a resident of Honey Creek, is an author focusing on popular and out-of-the-way hiking trails across the Midwest, and now his latest book is ready for release. "Hiking Iowa: A Guide to the State’s Greatest Hiking Adventures" is now in its second edition.



“I started it last year almost 20 years since the first edition was published by Elizabeth Hill,” Brooks said. He described his book as showcasing a balance of hiking trails geographically, touching all parts of Iowa. The book has a balance of hiking ability, from the easy to hike trails, which are fairly level with approachable walking surfaces and short distances, to the most difficult trails.

There are 40 hiking trails that Brooks details at length, including photographs, along with aspects like plants, animals and old cemeteries that enhance the hikes. “It’s something to give people what the area looks like,” Brooks said. There are another 12 trails that are less detailed but listed to inform readers about them.
