DECATUR — Any storms expected for Memorial Day weekend waited until after Saturday, the opening day of Decatur's water park, Splash Cove. "It's a beautiful day out," said Head Customer Service Manager Josslyn Mose shortly before the gates opened to nearly 50 water park guests waiting in line. "We'll have a good crowd, just because it's not too hot.
" Families continued to settle into their lounge chairs as the afternoon carried on. Splash Cove, located inside Nelson Park, has a capacity of 750 people. "Some people stay three or four hours," Mose said.
"Some people stay all day." Mose and the staff had been preparing the venue for nearly two weeks. "We're hoping for a lot of people and a good season," she said.
Decatur residents Melissa Bolt and Pam Minton are season ticket holders and were allowed to enter the park 30 minutes before the rest of the crowd. "We can't wait every year," Bolt said. "I walked in and said, 'I am home for the summer.
'" According to the friends, much of the enjoyment comes from watching and experiencing the friends, children and family activities. "And I love being outdoors," Bolt said. "For this to be available for Decatur is just amazing.
" Last year, the ladies visited the water park approximately four times a week. "When it's hot," Minton said. "But the kids don't care," Bolt said.
