H olt Ballet Conservatory presents the classical ballet theater entertainment “Don Quixote,” expected to be performed at 7 p.m. on June 13, 14, and a matinee at 2 p.

m. on Saturday, June 15 at the Don Baggett Theater located at 11761 Ridge Road in Nevada City on the campus of Nevada Union High School. The ballet tells the story of Kitri, who is in love with the young handsome village barber, Basilio.



The young love is forbidden by Lorenzo, Kitri’s father, who insists she marry the town nobleman, Gamache, who is rich, and a little on the paunchy side. “Gamache proposes to the father an arranged marriage, and of course the father is excited because this is a very sensible, well-heeled marriage proposal, but Kitri won’t have anything to do with it. So it’s a battle the whole story,” Yelena Holt, Director and Owner of Holt Ballet Conservatory said.

The surprisingly humorous ballet is set in Spain, around the mid 1500s, and is based on the novel, “Man of La Mancha,” by Miguel de Cervantes. “The choreography and music are fabulous,” Holt said. “Luna Quaglia, a senior this year.

.. plays the role of Kitri, and is a most delightful ballerina! She is beautiful, talented, accomplished, and convincing as the flirtatious and spirited woman of the hour who knows her own mind and has certainly made it up.

” Christopher Selbie, who has come back to Nevada County after a career in the ballet field, joins Holt Ballet to perform for his hometown, and plays the role of Ba.
