Kennett Square is one square mile yet well known for its many community activities and events. Kennett Collaborative is certainly one of the forces helping to make this happen behind the scenes. Kennett Collaborative has a history that started with the Kennett Square Revitalization Task Force in 1986, which transitioned into Historic Kennett Square and today is known as Kennett Collaborative.
Daniel Embree, the Kennett Collaborative Executive Director was willing to be interviewed and was helpful in providing perspectives on this organization in the context of the town’s leadership. No, they are not the Kennett Borough or Square Roots Collective. Kennett Collaborative is its own 501C3, with a board; with two full-time employees; two part-time employees and many volunteers.
Daniel speaks about Kennett Collaborative as the organization that is dedicated to assuring the town is beautiful, inclusive, welcoming and a place that the surrounding area sees Kennett as “my town.” The “collaborative” part speaks to how they interface with all the happenings and other leadership in town and provide support when it is needed. They do not want to duplicate, and Daniel said: “We strive to bring our partners together to create meaningful programming for the people who live, work, and visit here.
” Kennett Collaborative’s mission statement: “We long to see Kennett Square become the most beautiful town in America, where people from different backgrounds, generations, and walks.
