A hidden gem beach in the UK has been described as "one of the most beautiful places in the world" - and is perfect for a summer getaway . There are countless beloved spots along the Kent coast where you can soak up some sun and sand. However, if you're looking to dodge the crowds this year, there's one place you need to check out.
The Warren, a stunning cove near Folkestone, boasts golden sands, chalk cliffs and breathtaking sea views, yet remains peaceful even during the height of summer. Its tranquillity can be attributed to its location, about half an hour away from the nearest main road. If you choose to approach from the nearby Little Switzerland campsite, expect a scenic journey through winding paths, wilderness and over grassy mounds that takes around an hour before you reach the cove.
One glance at this hidden treasure and it's clear the lengthy trek is worth it. Interestingly, this spot enjoyed its prime during the Edwardian era when it was much easier to access. Once home to a train station, a cafe and gardens, the area now lies within dense wilderness teeming with 150 different species of birds and wildflowers.
Folkestone Warren Halt train station opened its doors in 1886, but was shut down the same year after Lord Randor declared it encroached on his land, reports Kent Live . Despite reopening after a 22-year hiatus, the station saw the light of day only briefly before once again being forced to close its doors due to a landslide in 1915. Re-opening its gates onc.
