Volunteers finished painting Bangor’s first ground mural in downtown on Wednesday. Local nonprofits Bangor Beautiful and Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness teamed up to create the mural, which features images of waves, native animals and crops, and Katahdin. More than 75 volunteers helped paint the new mural and began working on it May 26.
The artwork runs along the road shoulder on Hammond Street from the intersection of Central Street and stretches uphill, ending just after the U.S. Post Office.
The display is designed to make the road appear narrower and slow traffic. The colorful mural is one of several new pieces of public art that will arrive in downtown Bangor this summer..
