Monday is Memorial Day, the day we honor and mourn all who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. While some get caught up in the excitement of having a three-day weekend and the activities that come with the observed launch of summertime, please take time to remember why we have such freedoms. It’s the sacrifices of our service members and their families that allow us to enjoy life to the fullest in our nation.
Meanwhile at the Capitol, budget negotiations remain the buzz words that just never seems to go away these last couple of weeks in May. Seems much like the song lyrics “One Step Forward and Two Steps Back.” But the clock is ticking, and we are required to finish our regular session no later than 5 p.
m. May 31. My hope is that a budget deal is closer than we think, and very soon we will have something to vote on and present to the people.
No further action has been taken yet on the proposed State Department of Education rules, which seems to be a very hot button issue. We will see where this goes in the next two weeks.
