Greg Hill died on June 11th after a long struggle with Dementia. Greg was an artist, storyteller, music lover, and a memorable character. He loved his family, friends, and community and will be remembered for his kindness, unique sense of humor, and openness to new experiences.
Born in Duncan, Oklahoma on October 11th, 1949, Greg moved to Roswell, NM at the age of 8. He fondly remembered summers as a boy playing baseball and riding bikes with his friends, free from adult supervision. He was a bright student- as valedictorian of his high school class he went on to earn degrees from New Mexico State and Purdue.
After graduation, Greg traveled for several years, exploring the mountain West. Greg eventually moved to Santa Fe, NM where he met his wife Maureen (Mo) Russell at a martial arts school in Santa Fe where they were both students and sparring partners. He was a supportive and loving partner and father raising two sons- Jesse and Joshua.
The family moved to Flagstaff in 1988. Greg had a successful career as an Engineer focused on natural gas pipelines. He helped protect us all by ensuring that the pipelines were safe and delivered the gas that heats our homes.
Greg retired in 2005 to pursue painting. He enjoyed plein air painting and created many beautiful flowers, birds, and landscapes. He is best known for his "Polar Bear", a striking black and white image of a bear that came to symbolize his work.
