The Guam Police Department will assist a command center in a Tumon hotel, with the arrival of about 8,000 service members on Wednesday. On Wednesday, approximately 8,000 U.S.
and Japanese service members arrived on Guam and started their three-day shore leave. The visit "will see many service members staying at various hotels in Tumon and visiting the numerous restaurants, shopping malls and entertainment establishments in the Tumon and Tamuning area," GPD said in a press release. "Military officials anticipate that the Tumon-Tamuning area will experience the highest concentration of service members during this three-day visit," GPD said.
"With this influx of visitors, we expect an increase in both pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area, as well as a higher number of patrons at bars and clubs," GPD added in its release. Considering the influx of visitors, GPD said it has implemented a comprehensive plan working with local and military agencies to ensure the safety and security of both residents and visitors. "A command center will be established at the USO (in the) Dusit Beach Resort to coordinate our efforts and provide support throughout the visit.
Should residents or visitors have any questions or concerns, they are encouraged to contact the Tumon-Tamuning Precinct at 671-649-6330 or police dispatch at 671-475-8615 through 8617," GPD said in the release.
