An alternative folk-duo have teamed up with a community choir to release a song they hope will help propel the Scotland national football team on to great things at the Euros 2024. Hunter & McMustard, a duo consisting of North Lanarkshire man John McMustard – of well-known musical ensemble Colonel Mustard and the Dijon Five – and Ayrshire singer and songwriter Colin Hunter, initially came up with the track Go on Yourself as an alternative entry for Eurovision in the event that Glasgow had been awarded host city status two years ago. When that didn’t happen, they decided to team up with the The Dumfries & Galloway Community Choir featuring The Laurettes and piper Craig Weir, and a few others who formed Mellow Party.

They decided to launch Go on Yourself [gaun yerself] as a rallying cry for the Tartan Army who are set to make their way in their tens of thousands to Germany for this month’s tournament, where they will take on the host nation in the opening match in Munich. John said: “It starts off with a ballad and goes to being a ceilidh, and it’s about going through hard times. “We have artists from all over the country involved on it and it fits with supporting Scotland well, with things not always going well but having a party regardless of the outcome.



“It wasn’t specifically written for this but it fits with the ups and owns you go through as a Scotland supporter. “It is about folk going through hard times and not giving up, and overcoming them. That�.
